PROJECTS

Visitors get a feel for some of John Muir's great adventures as they “follow in his footsteps.”

Ultra high-resolution photographs bring to life some of the many places Muir visited.

Visitors leap over a gaping crevasse in an Alaskan glacier...just like Muir did!

Visitors can be photographed hanging from a cliff in Yosemite Valley, and then email the photo to friends.

A “Discovery” gallery explores Muir’s scientific contributions to the fields of Geology, Botany and Zoology.

Preserved plants collected by Muir are displayed, along with digitally restored images of the same specimens.

Visitors explore a re-creation of Muir’s roof-top “Hang Nest,” which he built in Yosemite Valley.

Drawing stations allow visitors to record nature just like Muir did, with pencil and paper.

OAKLAND, CA
A Walk in the Wild features the historic iconic California figure, John Muir, as a “guide,” inviting visitors to examine, explore and reconsider their perception of and relationship to the natural world. Throughout the exhibit, historical stories and artifacts complement contemporary stories from “Modern Day Muirs,” who continue Muir’s legacy of conservation and inspiration.

This project was quite complex, requiring a high level of attention to detail. West Office staff did an excellent job of keeping our team on task and on schedule.
