The National Japanese American Historical Society: Military Intelligence Service Historic Learning Center
SAN FRANCISCO, CA
West Office has been engaged by the National Japanese American Historical Society to develop the MIS Historic Learning Center in the Presidio of San Francisco. The location was the original site of the Military Intelligence Service Language School, which secretly trained Nisei soldiers in Japanese language skills during World War II. Working together with NJAHS and the National Park Service, West Office has developed exhibits that will increase awareness of this little known story of dedication and sacrifice.

Set in the foreground of the Golden Gate Bridge, the historic building will feature exhibits and ongoing public programs on the legacy of the MIS linguists’ work and also explore themes of patriotism and cultural understanding. Exhibits will present artifacts from NJAHS’ significant collection, including historic documents, photographs, objects, and oral histories.
